The Glass Menagerie opened in 1978 as a combination retail store and showroom for a small specialty glass company in Corning, NY. The founders, Richard and Jacqueline Pope have continued to run the retail operations from its inception until the present day.
Over the last several years the store has become nationally known for one of the world's largest selections of kaleidoscopes, paperweights, art glass, and glass animals. Located on Corning's historic Market Street, the store was the focus of a film entitled "Main Street". This film shows what can be done to historic old buildings in terms of preservation and creative rehabilitation.
The show at our gallery, titled Fire and Form: The Magic of Glass resonates for Mr. Pope, as he is a part-time professional magician specializing in glass magic. Many people think there is something magical about glass, a material that can't quite decide if it is a solid or a super-cooled liquid.
Come visit the main store as well as the gallery should your travels bring you to New York State. The store is located at 37 East Market Street and the gallery is closed for the winter season; however, pieces are available for online viewing.  Also, select gallery pieces are available for viewing at our main store.  You are encouraged to telephone The Glass Menagerie at 607-962-6300 and ask for the director, Richard Pope, Manager, Kimberly Wilson, or Assistant Manager, Lisa Mathewson, should you wish to have further information about the art pieces, the artists, prices, dimensions or special commissions.
